Uptown Palm Springs will have a new restaurant opening in time for the start of season.

TRIO Restaurant and bar will feature a blend of California cuisine with modern American flair when it opens mid-September, tout entrepreneurs Tony Marchese and Mark Van Laanen. They plan to use local growers when possible and feature work from local artists on their walls.

Highlights will include seasonal items and offerings of fish, steak, organic salads and vegetarian cuisine, said Van Laanen, who will be chef and general manager. With dinners starting around $14, they hope locals will come by multiple times a week.

“People still eat,” Marchese said of opening in a down economy, “and we’re at a price point they can afford.”

Marchese is a desert agent with Keller Williams Realty.

Van Laanen has 28 years of experience in the restaurant industry and has owned and operated numerous dining spots in Door County, Wis.

That Midwestern influence can be found on the menu he's developed.

The restaurant, formerly Boscoso Italian Restaurant, is at 707 N. Palm Canyon Drive.
